Health Care Waste Management Project awarded the "Gold Award" for the "Service Delivery Innovation Category" and the "Platinum Award" for the best Gauteng project from all categories

 

Health Care Waste Management Pilot Project at Leratong Hospital wins 3rd prize for Service Excellence at the recent Khanyisa Awards. The award was presented by the SA Minister of Health and the Gauteng MEC of Health and others.

The findings of the sustainable health care waste management project are being tested through two pilot projects, which began in January 2003 at Leratong Hospital and Itireleng Clinic.  Waste is being transported to an incinerator facility in Roodepoort for treatment.

The objectives of the Pilot Project are to test alternative methods of waste collection, storage, transport and treatment.
